Welcome to Tech Lectures

National Organizations to belong

The American Association of Pharmacy Technicians (AAPT), have been around for over 30 years (established: 1979), and follows necessary guidelines in being a non-profit organization with newly elected volunteers on a yearly basis.   Although not a strong national organization due to different variables such as lack of financial support, this is the organization I would recommend as far as being there for its membership base.  Simply said, this is a  great organization to belong.  Tell them Tech Lectures sent you

The Society for the Education of Technicians (SEPHT) is a new organization just formed a year ago (today date is Dec 25, 2011).  The organization claims a current membership base of 400 Technicians.  The website is excellent in content and the organization does appear to be legitimate as far as volunteers, etc.   The President of this organization is Karen Davis, AAHCA, CPhT.

I cannot really comment much more as the only thing this year I received from this organization, as a member (75.00 per year), is a welcome letter and email Christmas greetings.  I am not one to say really anything negative about this organization mainly because I have not looked at it in detail the way I should to give an accurate/factual opinion as the other organizations on this page.

The National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA), celebrates its 13 year (Feb 2012), of being a national organization for the Pharmacy Technician vocation.  Although it displays its non-profit status, the organization appears to be more about making money off of its 20 plus products they produce themselves and aggressively market and sale.  Unlike most non-profits, this organization is not run by yearly elected volunteers, but for the past 13 years,  by two married Pharmacists Jody and Wendy Meigs and Mike Johnston who was made Founder / CEO when he was their teenage Pharmacy Technician.

I am not one to say do not belong to this organization as they claim a membership base of tens of thousands, but realize everything they do for you may have a price tag attached.

Do not limit yourself to just the three organizations above as there are many state Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician organizations with Pharmacy Technician members as well. Just be sure the one you choose is the one that will meet your individual needs.

Other organizations that seem to care about their Pharmacy Technician members:

The Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians (CAPT)

    California Pharmacists Association (CPhA)

    Washington State Pharmacy Association (WSPA)
